"LARGE, SIZE 6" (1941) FLYING JACKET. Attributed to a Polish Fighter Pilot (Service No. G-3307) ....Currently Researching. [BACKGROUND]
As serious aviation clothing collectors will know, 99% of all the World War II RAF flying jackets which one sees were almost entirely & 'automatically' made by Irvin Ltd.

However, in the early months of the war a contract (in this case referred to as H.539781 / 1941) was granted by The Air Ministry to WAREING Ltd of Northampton to produce both heated & unheated flying jackets.

Wareings also gained a contract to produce the RAF "B" Type leather flying helmets during the same early period and these are regularly seen in fairly good numbers dated 1938, 1939 & 1940.

Clearly, and as is seen by the extreme scarcity of the Wareing flying jackets, the company was more focused on flying helmet production than on the jackets. We've also seen many many pairs of Irvin flying trousers, but personally I've never owned or seen a pair of Wareing trousers, but one presumes they did exist.

Condition wise it's just lovely...and having clearly been properly stored it's pretty much as it was when the wartime owner last wore it. The collar fleece is thick and substantial, with the body panels and sleeving interiors having being sourced from a lighter and unusually 'soft & silky' fleece type. The jacket is entirely subtle, yet totally original, totally untreated and un-restored and has not been 'messed with' !

Still displaying its original label, the only tiny issue is that the right hand sleeve zip 'dot' slider & pull tab are absent, but the zip itself and all its teeth and end stops are all present & totally ok.
A repair or a period zip replacement is entirely possible.

STRICTLY ONE ONLY. VERY Large & VERY Wearable.
