Order of Dannenbrog
III Class
(Knight).

King Frederick IX.

In 1961 the regiment was deployed in Kenya which was then a British colony. This deployment was during the peak of the Mau Mau troubles during which the regiment killed & captured many of the terrorists.

The following year,1962, the regiment returned to the United Kingdom where the 1st Battalion was presented with its first colours by its Colonel-in-Chief, HM King Frederick IX of Denmark at Folkestone on 23 June.
It is believed that Major KILLE was the colours accepting officer on behalf of the regiment and The British Crown.

William’s father, 6201. Pre Ephrain KILLE, of 2nd Hampshire Regt was killed in WW1 on 4th June 1915 at Gallipoli and is commemorated on The Helles Memorial.
