[BIOGRAPHY]
Henry BARGENT was born on 26th July 1913 and at the start of WW2 in 1939 he was a 13 year old student. By 1943 at the age of 17 he had gained employment as a Reading Postman. His initial period of postal service was very brief as he joined the Royal Navy in mid-1943 and served as a Wireless Telegraphist for about two years. This period of naval service took in the Burma & D-Day Campaigns. By 1945 he is seen back in service at Reading post office.

Mr BARGENT was a long serving member of the St John Ambulance Association and in 1983 was invested as a Serving Brother and was awarded the Order of St John. He had been a long serving member of the Post Office Ambulance Centre and for over 35 years was in charge of Post Office First Aid for most of Berkshire. With his Reading First Aid Team he won The Douglas Bader Trophy In 1982 . In 1983 Mr Bargent joined the Burma Star Association. For his Medical services to St John & to the Post Office he received the B.E.M. in 1985 with a further award of the I.S.M. in 1987.
