From Braco, Perth. Peter Ferguson was from Braco, Perthshire & was born in 1898. He was the son of the late Mr Robert Ferguson & Mrs Jane Ferguson.

[PRIVATE PETER FERGUSON's FINAL ACTION, 27th SEPT 1918]
In the very early hours of 27th September 1918 he and his comrades of 2nd RSF were entrenched in Beugny near Bapaum. They were in waiting for a pre-planned dawn attack on the German lines which were known as BORLASS STREET, GEORGE STREET & JERMYN STREET. There had been an enemy barrage brought down upon the assembly trenches prior to ZERO HOUR which was to be 05:30am.

From Braco, Perth. By 06:30am the attacking battalions were coming under considerable enemy machine gun fire which was emanating from the targeted enemy trenches. The GEORGE STREET German trench was not 'mopped up' properly by the first engaging troops with the result that many of the enemy machine guns were still active.

During this difficult attack the unit lost three officers killed in action , two officers wounded and 93 other ranks killed and wounded, one of whom was Pte Peter Ferguson.

The officer in charge commented in the post-attack report that he felt the casualty numbers would have been greatly reduced had the George Street German trench been correctly cleared of the enemy prior to more troops passing in it's vicinity during the ongoing raid.
