From Mrs Anne Chamberlain, Wife of Neville Chamberlain, The British Prime Minister, to a female friend, Mrs Knight of 49 Prestbury Crescent, Woodmansterne, Surrey, about garden plants and flowers !  She was known to have a love of music and art, of books and flowers and while at 10 Downing Street, she created a bright border where previously there had been some sad London shrubs !

The notes, also contained in this letter, refer to the plants in that border !!

Mrs Chamberlain (Relaxed Private Letter, 3rd August 1939 !)

A very historic letter from the point of view that Mrs Chamberlain, perhaps as late as 30 days before declaration of war, still had a great deal of faith in her husband's Munich agreement with Adolf Hitler and was clearly more interested in flower arranging than erecting air raid shelters and putting up blackout curtains at Number 10 !

I don't think you could ever read a more 'laid back' communication written at such a potentially monumental time of impending national disaster !
