KILLED IN ACTION. 25th SEPTEMBER 1915.

[BIOGRAPHY] ( -1915 )
Harry is yet another “Old Contemptible” British hero that we know very little about as his service papers have not survived.

8624, Pte Harry Wells joined the Leicestershire regt in about March 1909.

He landed in France on 12th October 1914 with 2nd Bn Leicestershire Rgt and took part in most of the major engagements in late 1914 and was Promoted to Lance Corporal, probably some time in mid-1915. Sadly, eleven months later on 25th September 1915, Harry was Killed in Action on 1st Day of The Battle of Loos.

Killed-in-Action 25th September 1915. His medal index card just coldly records “PRESUMED DEAD”

He is also entitled to a WW1 pair...are they in your collection?

Like so very many men lost in this battle, he body was lost without trace and he has no known grave.

Harry Wells is commemorated with Eternal Honour on Panel 42-44 of The Loos Memorial, France.

LEST WE FORGET THE TRUE COST OF OUR FREEDOM.
