Ernest Albert Bailey was born in Scothorpe, Fakenham, Norfolk in 1876.Prior to his enlistment on into 5th Bn Norfolk Regt on 13th April 1908 he had been a member of 3rd Volunteer Bn Norfolk’s, while in civilian employment as a postman.
He served for four years with yearly re-engagements until 13th April 1912.He is then seen being embodied into 5th Norfolk’s on 5th August 1914.

A VERY RARE “NORFOLKS” Q.S.A. & WW1 (GALLIPOLI) 1914-15 Trio with Edward VII TFEM. (Later Bedford’s) To. 160 Pte E.A. BAILEY. NORFOLK Rgt. Wounded. With original photo wearing his medals. He embarked for Theatre (2) Balkans on 30th July 1915 with an arrival on 6th August.

He was wounded (bullet wound to shoulder) on 21st August 1915 when he was returned to the U.K. on 23rd September. He then served with 4th Reserve Bn from 1st September 1916 until being re-engaged for “D of War” on 1st May 1917. He then served at home until his final discharge on 28th March 1919, when he returned home to Warley, Scothorpe, Fakenham.

During his service he appeared in the defaulters book three times.
Colchester 28.12.1914. Falling out without permission while on parade. 2 days pay.
Watford. 15.6. 1915. Improper conduct. 2 days confined to barracks.
Boddington.16.12.1917 Having a fire before 5pm. 2 days pay.
