[BIOGRAPHY]
Edgar Arthur James landed in France as a Private in the Monmouthshire Regt on 13th February 1915. He was clearly an efficient man and was quickly promoted from the ranks to 2nd Lt on 13th September and won his MC just 11 weeks later. After the war, the then Captain James resided at "Oak Villa" 72 Chepstow Road, Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales.

[CITATION: London Gazettes, 2nd April & 10th December 1919]

'For conspicuous gallantry and skilful handling of men during the operations at Pecq, and at the crossing of the river Escaut, on 9th November 1918. He undertook a great deal of personal reconnaissance on 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th November, frequently under fire, and by the night of the 8th he had located the enemy posts. He was thus enabled to get his company across the river under circumstances of great difficulty.'

An excellent & important 'ultra late' award of the Military Cross won on 9th November 1918 during the final actions of the Great War on the River Excaut at Pecq in Belgium. Just two short days after 2nd Lt James' brave actions, the guns fell silent at 11 'o' clock on 11th November.

This is an exceptionally nice M.C. which is in SUPERB MINT STATE on original silk ribbon in its original crested leather, silk & velvet case ....A STUNNING & FULLY ATTRIBUTED EXAMPLE !
