POLICE EXEMPry, G.S.M.(Palestine)39-45,Africa,Def,War,(M.I.D.)Cor´37&53 (COLDSTREAM GDS)

Medals to a man with much MILITARY and CIVIL service.
Davey enlisted into the Coldsteam Guards before WW2 (circa 1937) and served in Palestine during the Jewish/Arab unrest.
During WW2 he and his unit had an exciting time of it in close action with the enemy.

On the 16th April 1941 the 3rd Bn Coldstream Guards were just outside of Sidi Barrani, holding the Halfaya Pass. It is pretty certain that William Davey was part of the party, which on the 15th, were detailed to attack a German position at the Egyptian barracks near Sollum. Unfortunately the unit ran into a very large enemy force en route to their objective, No.1 and No.4 companies stumbling practically into the German lines, resulting in a chaotic running battle with large casualties on both sides. It is almost certain that William Davey received his M.I.D. for gallant conduct during this savage hand to hand action.
Further research will no doubt confirm this
.

AN EXCELLENT AND UNUSUAL GROUP WORTHY OF MUCH FURTHER RESEARCH
